The Power Of Human Resilience After Major Disasters— And The Importance Of Community

In the following article, we learn the power of human resilience and how strong human beings really are. The article discusses the events of Hurricane Katrina but how a group of researchers went from measuring academic success pre-Katrina to measuring "Happiness" levels post-Katrina. The scientists/researchers/professors had known the subject before hand and were lucky enough to track down most subjects after the disaster. They were allowed to collect some valuable data on their "Happiness" level and then cross reference data to see how resilient humans can be.

Now why I found this article interesting was that it showed me the importance of surveysand data collection. Especially as a consultant or trainer you have to monitor your work and outcomes. You need to possess some type of tangible data to see if your methods of training are effective. Also to see the before and after results. Having valuable date is not only good for your employer so that they can see a numerical process but it's also a great way to evaluate yourself and your work.
